Collector’s Corner: Bayonne - ‘Filters’ (Limited Edition Ultra Clear Vinyl)

It’s time for another edition of Collector’s Corner! In this series, we try to collaborate with artists to discuss seminal records in their discography! Sometimes these are special edition vinyls or deluxe reissues. This time we’re talking about one of our favorite releases of 2026, Filters by Bayonne!

First I want to say thank you to Roger Sellers (aka Bayonne) and Nettwerk Music Group for the hookup with this LP for the feature! I absolutely loved this record when I reviewed it back in September and have been dying to hear what it sounds like on vinyl! To check out my review, visit this link.

Background

Bayonne is the brainchild of Roger Sellers, a composer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist. I had a chance to interview Sellers in anticipation of the drop of Filters, you can read what he had to say here. Sellers originally began releasing music under his own name in the early 2010s and then began using the Bayonne moniker for his more electronic experimental sounds.

One thing I love about Sellers’ work as Bayonne is his use of “found” audio. That is, he detailed to me about how he would leave a recorder running in nature, then come back hours later and see what he picked up. He began using this in his music, and I think it’s a trippy addition to his sound, which already leans into experimental and psych.

The Music

I’m not going to belabor the fact that I absolutely love this LP. I have been pushing you to listen to this since late August. That said, the record clocks in at ten tracks and just over forty minutes long. There are so many tracks to love, I think it’s a record best enjoyed front to back (I know, I know! I always say this). But with regard to Filters, I think it has movements musically, likely due to Sellers ability as a composer.

One track I always go back to is “Multiphase”. The synth work, paired with Sellers’ hypnotic vocals are like a fever dream. I absolutely hate comping artists, but if you’re looking for something similar, think Tame Impala, but less dance oriented, with a touch of psychedelic.

I also have to mention “Remedies” which stands out because of the absolutely mesmerizing piano melody that Sellers creates, that pops when it’s joined by his vocals and some beats and percussion work by the sensational Matt Toman. Toman is a close friend and collaborator of Sellers, and they are perfectly in tune with one another when it comes to building the intricacies found in the music on Filters.

Another track I have to mention, is “Unexpected”, another favorite of mine, and one that Sellers put great emphasis on. Sellers vocals are simply captivating here. He’s pitch perfect as he floats ethereally above the gentle melody, that includes acoustic guitar. It’s also accompanied by some of that “found” audio footage I mentioned earlier.

The Vinyl

The vinyl is great for its use of color to juxtapose the colorful jacket and sleeves, with this crystal clear LP that comes with it. The vinyl also came in an orange limited edition. But it was limited to 250 copies and they went faster than a flat screen at Best Buy on Black Friday. If you want to get a copy of this one, it can be had in Bayonne’s merch store here, or through other major retailers.

With all that said, how does did this thing play on my table? In short, like an absolute dream. I felt that I was able to hear more aspects of the melodies that Sellers had tucked away, than I did on my initial listens whether that be the advance I got for review consideration, or even streaming services. And that is why, (as I post almost every day), you should get physical media of the artists you love. For me, there is no substitute for hearing a track on turntable, it has an inherent warmth to it that you can only get through analog.
