Album Review: Girl Tones - ‘Precious’

With the release of their debut album, Precious, Girl Tones announce themselves boldly and they have something to say. Produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant, Precious hits hard from the start. Its angsty, its loud, and packed with attitude, showcasing a sharp edge that cuts through every track.
Comprised of sisters Kenzie and Laila, Girl Tones has already been making waves ahead of Precious. But when you’re backed by the likes of Brad Shultz, that momentum comes as no surprise. The duo built a loyal following with a string of standouts including ‘Volcano’, ‘Stubborn Mouth’, and single ‘Pretty Face’.
What makes Precious so compelling is that it never feels manufactured. While Shultz’s production value gives the record a polished punch, Girl Tones never lose the raw energy that makes this album so exciting in the first place. Precious thrives on crunchy guitar, roaring rhythms, and emotionally charged vocals that capture the human condition perfectly.
There is a restless, grunge/garage rock vein running right through Precious, fueling every sharp edge, every noisy hook with a youthful defiance.
For releasing a debut album, Girl Tones sounds like a band who know exactly who they are and where they want to go. Precious proves they are far more than another up and coming alt rock act. They have delivered a debut that demands attention. If this record is any indication, they are just getting started.
Album Rating- 8/10
