Album Review: Goon - 'Hour Of Green Evening'

Updated: May 3, 2023

They are ambitious and artsy and have been described as "your favorite band's favorite band", they are Goon and the bring it with Hour of Green Evening. The album instantly took me aback with it's impactful lyrics, vocal, and massive soundscapes. As soon as I listened to their single "Angelnumber 1210", I knew I had to hear everything. Goon isn't just a band, it's an experience. Bandleader Kenny Becker drives the artistic side of the band's music including it's cover art. He also founded the project in 2015 on Bandcamp. I have been floored by Goon's ambient but complicated atmospheric melodies they create. They are grand in nature like something you would expect from Radiohead, but not necessarily as moody.

Hour of Green Evening seamlessly flows from one track to the next, and it captivates the listener while doing so. Simply put, this is some of the best indie I've heard in a while and I've been wondering where Los Angeles has been hiding this band! Hour of Green Evening is Alt Revue Approved and I can't wait to see what this band does next.
