This Friday, Austin-based TropPop outfit Summer Salt return with their latest LP Electrolytes. We had a chance to catch up with the Matthew and Eugene of Summer Salt the other day, for that interview see here. The album is short, coming in at seven songs and most of the songs range from 2:00 to 3:00 minutes in length. But what the band is able to accomplish with what they've put out is significant.
For one thing, it's important to note that Summer Salt has done some experimentation with their sound a bit on this album. They have incorporated some electronic beats that pair well with their shimmery guitar work. Which is topped off by fantastic vocal work and harmonies. It's pretty easy to declare this record one of the albums of the summer. I can just imagine myself on the beach, relaxing to this record. And isn't that what it's truly about with the TropPop genre?
Summer Salt get high marks expanding their world view (check out "Take Carra Me"), while not abandoning what has gotten them this far in the first place. With the ten year anniversary of their beloved record Driving to Hawaii ensuing this year, this album is a great indicator that even after all this time, the TropPop group still have tricks up their sleeves.
