Album Review - Andrew Belle: 'Nightshade'

Album Review - Andrew Belle: Nightshade (August 20, 2021)

Chicago-based singer songwriter Andrew Belle is releasing his fourth album Nightshade this week and we are ready for you to hear it. For the album, Belle worked with his long-time producer Chad Copelin and drummer/programmer James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens, The National). One of the album's big singles (and love song banger) "Lonely Heart" was co-written with SYML. For recording the album, Belle went to Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, Texas which has birthed albums from Bon Iver, Beach House and more.

The end result of all the work Belle and his collaborators put in is a ten song epic around the concept of mental health and coping. Sonically, Belle incorporates electronic sounds that at times remind of Gunship and at points even Radiohead (especially that beat on "Inside Voices"!). Vocally, Belle is so gifted and versatile, he evokes comps to Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. Musically, Nightshade is a perfect blend of indie and electronic as summer wains into fall. Don't miss out on this one, it's well worth your time.
