Confessional with Bad Saint - 11/5/18

It's Monday and that means it's time for Confessional with Bad Saint! Every week Bad Saint will be taking your musical questions, confessions, and/or settling your debates. We have a great batch of questions this week from the public. If you would like to submit a question for Bad Saint, send an email to altrevue@gmail.com. With that, let's get to your questions!

“Dear Bad Saint, Trying to settle a debate with a friend, who is more influential, The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin?"

-Todd from London Bad Saint - "To be honest, it’s kind of apples and oranges. Or rather, melodies vs. storytelling. The Rolling Stones write killer pop songs in 3:30 or less, whereas Led Zeppelin’s strengths lie in arrangement".

“ Hi Bad Saint, I’m looking to get into some music from the Seattle scene, who would you recommend?” -Barbara from Chicago Bad Saint - "I super dig Anime Creek, Delvon Lamar Organ Trio, Noah Gundersen, Skates! , Mendijin, Sick Sad World, and The Black Tones right now. Check out the concert calendars at the Tractor Tavern, Chop Suey and Barboza for more recs too".

“Dear Bad Saint, I’m sick and I have a performance to give. Got any tips for a vocalist on the mend?” -Chad from Burbank Bad Saint -"Throat. Coat. Tea. With TONS of honey. Try to be gentle with your voice during rehearsal, and spend time warming up. Avoid coffee, beer, and dairy... sorry. Legend has it that often when singers think they are congested their nasal passages are just SUPER INFLAMED, ibuprofen can reduce the swelling and let you breath through your nose again".

“Bad Saint, If there was one former band that could make one more album, who would you want it to be and why?” -Susan from Nashville Bad Saint - "I want another Amy Winehouse album where she plays guitar more. Lots of folks don’t realize how great of a guitarist she was because her guitar chops were overshadowed by her vocal chops".

“Hey Bad Saint, What ever happened to artists backmasking stuff? It used to be so cool. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I miss it.” -Fox from Washington DC Bad Saint - "My guess is that it has to do more with a shift from records to digital formats. It’s easy to play a vinyl record backwards. These days playing a song backwards can totally be done, but takes a few more steps. However, lots of folks still hide cool stuff in their music. Tim_Held, a local Seattle producer, hides all sorts of weird backwards snippets in their music".
