#HotTake Review - Sour Widows: Crossing Over EP (April 23, 2021)

Oakland bedroom pop trio Sour Widows have just dropped a new EP titled Crossing Over and we're here for it. If you find yourself a fan of Julien Baker or Soccer Mommy, you'll be sure to dig Sour Widows' super sleepy sound. The mellowness of their slightly distorted guitars balance perfect with their pitch-perfect harmonies.

The EP begins with "Look the Other Way" which perfectly balances the band's bedroom pop with more slowed indie sensibilities. The title track of the EP features some dynamic harmonization that you just don't hear often in the bedroom pop genre. Crossing Over closes out with the acoustic "Walk All Day" that again features dynamic harmonization. This one has the feel of an alt/folk track more so than a traditional bedroom pop song, but it was cool to see the band flex their muscles a bit and have some fun with styling. Crossing Over may only be four tracks, but all four are well worth your time. Don't miss out on this trio from California.
