Album Review - Lea Thomas: Mirrors To the Sun (July 23, 2021)
NYC's Hawaii-born Japanese American multi-disciplinary artist & singer-songwriter Lea Thomas is dropping her debut LP Mirrors To the Sun this Friday. Thomas' style is extremely unique to today's scene. Her low-key indie rock hits hard at points, particularly with guitar, but is just as likely to settle back, such as on "What Did the Music Sound Like". What really pops off the record are Thomas' vocals, crisp and gentle, they perfectly compliment the sound she has created.
The album clocks in at a quick eight tracks, so I am definitely left wanting more. However, what's on the album is so worth your time. There's some influence of more classic sounds even going as far as incorporating some horns, all tied in a nice indie vibe. Based on what I've heard, I'm going to call it and say Thomas is an artist on the rise. I could see her occupying a similar space to singer/songwriters like Lucy Dacus and Soccer Mommy pretty soon. Better jump on early, that's all I have to say.
