Album Review: Hovvdy - ‘Big World’
Austin, TX indie duo Hovvdy are back with their latest effort Big World, which drops everywhere on Friday! Big World represents the duo of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor’s sixth studio release since 2016. The indie mainstays return with Big World, which features 12 new tracks for fans and newcomers to enjoy. Big World sees Martin and Taylor tangling with the duo’s place in the world thematically, which is a departure from the more emotionally driven themes found on 2021’s True Love and their self-titled release, which dropped in 2024.

Martin and Taylor have enjoyed success and change since the release of their last record, which includes relocating to Nashville and both becoming published songwriters. On their latest effort, Martin stated “The last record felt like such a generous offering: a double-album, deeply personal, you can literally hear me crying on some of the songs”. Martin continued “With this one, we wanted to take on the challenge of making something more concise and to the point, and give the fans something that feels like a shorter but more exciting ride”.
On Big World, Martin and Taylor effortlessly blend elements of indie, pop, and alt-country. Hovvdy take a fast-paced approach to their sonic landscaping with this one, with the album’s closer “Wannabe (Radio Queen)” representing one of the longer tracks on the record, clocking in just shy of 4 minutes. Big World is contemplative, well-paced, and diverse in it’s sound featuring dynamic guitar (both acoustic and electric), piano, and pedal-steel throughout the record. Our personal favorite had to be the more mellow-paced “Junk” which comes in near the end of the album. However, Big World is a solid effort throughout and one that you can simply hit play and let roll.
Rating - 8/10

I really appreciate how this review highlights the shift from the raw emotional weight of their previous records to something more tight and concise. The quote from Martin about wanting a "shorter but more exciting ride" makes a lot of sense when you think about how much has changed for them since moving to Nashville and becoming published songwriters. It’s interesting that even the longest track clocks in under four minutes—feels like a deliberate breath of fresh air. Speaking of testing limits, I’ve been messing around with the mouse scroll test onlione to check my mouse’s consistency while scrolling through long album tracklists, and it’s surprisingly handy for spotting subtle issues you don’t notice in daily use. Definitely looking forward…
جلب الحبيب

I love how 'Behind the Lyrics' digs into the moody vibe of Little Black Submarines and its building sound. It got me thinking about creative puzzles—just like the game meowdoku where cats fill the grid, keeping everything playful and clever.
I appreciate how clearly 10.0.0.1 is explained here. The instructions are presented in a practical way, which makes it easier to understand what to do instead of just listing technical information.
