Artist Spotlight - Junodream

We had the opportunity to interview London five-piece Junodream for an Artist Spotlight Interview! Their sound evokes comps to alt 90's classics with a new twist. Their single "To the Moon" has taken off on Spotify hitting almost 900,000 listens! Check out what they had to say below!

1. How did you come to pursue music and how long have you been at it?

Tom and Dougal were the initial two who dragged the rest of us into the band. They’re a clone of each other in many ways, and clicked from the start. They were also both in bands from the age of 9, so I don’t think they’ve really grown up.

We’ve been pursing music for as long as we’ve known each other (several years) from our earlier school days. However, we’ve only stepped forward as ‘Junodream’ just over a year ago.

2. Could you walk us through your process of writing music?

The three writers in the group are Dougal, Tom and Ed. Think of it like a Christmas tree - Dougal’s the tree itself, Tom puts on the decoration, and Ed’s the angel on the top. So without Dougal, we’d be screwed. He’s the one who thinks up the majority of song ideas. Having known each other for so long, we know each of our strengths and weaknesses. If you want a song, ask Dougal. If you want a melody or fat riff, ask Tom. If you want lyrics which aren’t lame, ask Ed.

3. What artists have inspired you in your career?

There have been so many over the years. Recently, the French duo ‘Air’ have made a big impact on us. Radiohead of course, but everyone’s inspired by them so it’s a bit of a cop-out. Let’s see…Beck, Mercury Rev, Yo La Tengo, Brian Jonestown Massacre. More recently there’s the band ‘Happyness’ who we’re big fans of - check them out.

4. Do you have any favorite music gear (guitars, amps, effects pedals, keyboards, etc.) that you love to use?  If so, what’s the story on them?

(Tom here). I use the Strymon Big Sky and Mobius to make some pretty weird effects. Would highly recommend.

5. Can you describe the vibe at your live shows?  Also, what do you enjoy most about a venue when you do a show?

Sweaty. We’re very much a live band, and a lot of the time recordings will never do that justice. Think it’s down to the adrenalin and energy of a gig. Ed’s very good at driving the atmosphere of a show.

6. What is one thing that you want the public to know about your music?

Just having the public know about our band would be a great start.

7. Do you have any upcoming projects you would like fans to know about?

We’ve mentioned it a few times at our live shows, but it’s real and it’s happening. We’re releasing our very first extended play…or even two.
