EP Review: i.O. Underground - 'The Underside'

Updated: May 3, 2023

Colorado trio i.O. Underground have returned with their second EP, The Underside, a follow-up to 2020's The Wonderside. i.O. Underground complete their new six-track EP with slick modern rock stylings and smooth vocals from singer/guitarist/bassist Grayson. What is evidently clear from the band themselves is that i.O. Underground are about making music without boundaries. “Our goal is always to make any kind of music we’d like to make without constraints...We’ll add in sounds from anywhere and everywhere. We love modern rock beyond just bass, guitar, and drums. It’s never one-dimensional.” stated Grayson via press release.

Now let's be clear, i.O. Underground aren't about throwing whatever against the wall to see if it'll stick. Their tracks are comprehensively detailed both musically and lyrically. It's just important to note that in a world where it seems like we're so quick to jam bands into genre tight boxes, they'd just rather not. They're more process oriented and that suits us just fine.
