At the Precipice with Indigo De Souza

We had an opportunity to chat with one of our favorite alt-stars, Indigo De Souza! Check out our interview with her as we touch on the recent storms in Ashville, to new music, and much more!

I've been a big fan of yours for a while and have treasured all of your music. It was so sad to see what happened to the community of Ashville, North Carolina with Hurricane Helene and what happened to you as well. I remember following it live through your content. Can you tell us about that experience of rebuilding?

I was very moved by the whole thing myself. It felt like a really palpable moment in time like all we had each other. The communities out there are already really strong and just became even more apparent it just showed what can happen when we band together. Not a lot of people had cell service, electricity, and water. It was this world of helping and finding one another to get the things we needed. It was weird to just have people show up and we would exchange resources. I was lucky because I had well water and we created an outdoor shower in case they didn't have a shower. A lot of people also donated to me as well.

So much of that heartbreak plays through on this record. Can you tell us about your songwriting process for this record?

What's really wild is I recorded Precipice before the flood. I accidentally keep making records that align with my life. Post flood I had a depression and flew out to LA and wrote songs for another album.

Your mother does all the artwork for your albums with these beautiful paintings. Can you speak a little about what they mean to you?

It stems from an experience with my mom while I was on mushrooms and saw her skeleton dancing. I had this idea that my mom ran with in a painting. They were created to move how my mom and I move in real life.

You've just announced a headlining tour! What areas are you most excited to go to and what venues are you most excited to play?

Most excited just to hang out with my bandmates moved out to LA about four or five months ago. I've been very isolated in LA because I don't know very many people yet. I'm also excited to hang out with bands Primer and The Moth who are opening for us.

What's next?

Finishing the album made post flood and just need to get it mixed and mastered and have my label behind it.
