Album Review: Post Animal - 'IRON'

Chicago-bred Post Animal are a prog/psych rock band that originally slowed down when member Joe Keery had scheduling conflicts with acting in series such as Stranger Things and the takeoff of his project Djo. Well guess what...They're back baby with their new album IRON. Right off the bat, the track "Setting Sun" had us hook, line, and sinker. Featuring indie vocal and guitar work with snappy bass and drum work, the track is simply a winner. The distortion on the chorus bites just enough to bring in the listener for the ride.

Post Animal have a great ability to shift in their sound some as other tracks on the album are more subdued, such as "Maybe You Have To" which features some audio clips and more subdued tones. What is clear from the instrumentation all over the record is that Post Animal are talented musicians and not just bop makers. Their sound is fresh in its sampling and use of diverse instrumentation including piano and percussion. The melodies often read so bright (see "Main Menu"). Post Animal also show a flair for the dramatic on the stylishly sleek track "Dorien Kregg". In short, Post Animal kick the door down with this release as they really have a winner with IRON.
