Album Review: Oso Oso - ‘an exchange of information’

Oso Oso return with their sixth LP, an exchange of information wherever you get music this week! it features the trademark catchy melodies and hooks that you’ve come to know and love with the Jade Lilitri headed project.

I’ll say this now, “it’s all bait” might be hands down one of the best songs I’ve heard all year and will be joining my rotation. It’s a great track that gets you moving. I’m not a dancer though, so I’ll take flying down the street in my car with the windows down while it plays.

Oso Oso effortlessly blend elements of indie and emo in a way that just works. The driven guitars are great, the vocals are rich, and the lyricism is top notch. an exchange of information is so cool in that it follows a protagonist that begins to question the dreams they chase and the reality of their situation.

On their songwriting, Lilitri was quoted as saying: “I think my songwriting is probably rooted in wanting to be loved but not domesticated, enlightened but not disillusioned, wanting to be your own person but also belong…These things all seem impossible; I don’t know if that's pessimistic but it feels real. That’s the truth I’m trying to dig at. That’s what has always seemed like the point of all of this for me as an artist: exploring and sitting in the balance whatever this rollercoaster is.”

The record has the best elements of indie, catchy guitars and hooks and all the great elements of emo, deep lyrics and dynamic storytelling. The leads on are fantastic too, especially on “the facts”. I think an exchange of information will find itself on many end of the year lists next month. Not just ours.
