Album Review - Night Beats: 'Outlaw R&B'

Advance Review - Night Beats: Outlaw R&B (June 4, 2021)

Night Beats is the product of Texas musician Danny Lee Blackwell. Night Beats is set to release their fifth LP Outlaw R&B this Friday on Fuzz Club Records and we're here for it. This album is filled to the brim with heady rock music that will be sure to get you moving. The psychedelic-tinged fuzzy guitars are accompanied by fantastic vocals from Blackwell. Overall the sound harkens back to music of the past, but firmly has a foot planted in today.

The guitars on this one are next level. They are acid-fueled revelations that at a moment's notice can pivot in and out of slick solos effortlessly. Much like classic rock was a perfect response to the uncertainty of the 1960's and 1970's, the collection of music on Outlaw R&B just feels appropriate for the tumultuous times we live in today.

Outlaw R&B features a classic country twang to it that mixes perfectly with the more psychedelic aspects of the music. Night Beats have certainly touched on something with this LP and I think it's an immense success for the group. If you're into artists like Shakey Graves, you'll be sure to dig this one. Pick it up and give it a listen, you'll be glad you did.
