Album Review: Mild Orange - 'Looking For Space'

Updated: May 4, 2023

New Zealand-based Mild Orange has had a significant following online for a while now and their fans are thrilled that the wait is almost over for their third album Looking for Space. It should be noted that Looking for Space was recorded in six spaces throughout Aotearoa New Zealand during the course of a year. This also marks the first time that the band has recorded in a proper studio. While the band has traditionally set out with a bedroom pop sound, they moved to push the limits with their sound on this one.

The sound that Mild Orange achieves on Looking for Space is still rooted in bedroom pop. However, there are several instances where the band increases the scope of the sound into something more grand (ex. "Colourise" and "Aurora"). They also know when to bring it down, with the more indie styled sound of "Oh Yeah" and "Hollywood Dreams".

If you're looking for some feel good bedroom pop with indie stylings, Looking for Space should be right up your alley. It is very much the perfect album to put on and drift away to. Mild Orange brings a lot to the table on this release and we're into it.
