Soft Talon EP Ruin Review (May 15, 2020)
Alternative pop artist Soft Talon will be releasing her sophomore EP, Ruin, on May 1st. I was excited to give it a listen after hearing similar artists include FKA Twigs, Banks, and Ibeyi. The resemblance was obvious upon hearing the first track on the EP, Salt, and I was excited to hear more.
The project is comprised of four tracks, each unique enough to bring a fresh concept to the table. With ambient vocal loops and experimental sounds weaving through each track, it kept a perfect balance of variation and consistency throughout.
The EP’s concept is based off of the artist’s travel through Greece, learning about the previously adorned ruins which resonated metaphorically with her personal emotional journey through life. Ruin allowed me to bring this full circle in my mind as I imagined it breezing through the air near ancient greek ruins with the EP’s almost sacred and majestic feel.
All in all, the record is beautifully produced with magnificent vocals. Each track holds a powerful aura within its own realm caused by their eloquent lyrics.
Soft Talon looks like an emerging artist to watch out for. She’s got all the ingredients to be a future alternative pop sensation. Make sure to check this one out on May 1st.
