We had the opportunity to interview dark-pop artist Final Child who is releasing her 'Till Death Do Us Part (part I) EP on Friday, September 13th! Check out our interview with her!
1. How did you come to pursue music and how long have you been at it?
I danced and performed a lot when I was younger and always dreamt about pursuing music. I don’t come from a musical family at all though so it took me some time to find myself musically.
I started my first band when I was around 20 after only being in LA for like a year or so. It was super fun playing Sunset Strip’s legendary venues frequently but I had no idea what I was doing. All the years of playing in bands, writing sessions and working with different people has taken me to where I am today.
2. Could you walk us through your process of writing music?
However a song starts varies. Usually I feel this urge that I need or want to write and I just create a bunch of different ideas. Then I step back, revisit them after a day or so and work on the ones I like or get most inspired by. But then there’s also those moments when you finish a song in one day...That magic is unexplainable.
3. What artists have inspired you in your career?
Starting from the 90’s, everything from Spice Girls to Nirvana, but definitely strong females. I was a very confident kid singing and dancing around to J.Lo, Pink and Christina Aguilera all day long. It wasn’t until my teenage years I got more in to rock.
4. Do you have any favorite music gear (guitars, amps, effects pedals, keyboards, etc.) that you love to use? If so, what’s the story on them?
Whenever I’m working on a new song I always grab my harmonica mic from Shure. It naturally has that vintage sound and just creates this mesmerizing sound that's obviously great for writing. I find it easier to come up with melodies then, when I sound good, haha.
5. Can you describe the vibe at your live shows? Also, what do you enjoy most about a venue when you do a show?
Yea, I always try to work on the live shows a lot. People have said that they are a bit rockier than some of my tracks but there's honestly nothing better than seeing a good rock band live. That’s very inspiring for me and I definitely wanna give people that experience live.
6. What is one thing that you want the public to know about your music?
I guess that I do what I do for no other reason than that I love creating and making music. Final Child is a project that only comes from me, I’ve literally locked myself in my studio to try and stay as honest as possible. I’ve really pushed myself and given my all. I wanna inspire people out there that you don’t need anybody or a multi million dollar contract to be an artist. I also think its kind of fun and interesting to let the audience follow you journey as you get better and better.
7. Tell us about the writing, recording, and promotion process of Till Death Do Us Part (part I).
It wasn’t really until after a couple of years of writing and releasing a few songs that I saw the EP kind of form. I wrote a song called “Till Death Do Us Part” around the same time I got engaged and I realized it all all of a sudden made sense. It’s great to have a solid plan going into things but sometimes it's almost better not thinking too much and just creating. Whatever suppose to happen will happen anyway.
I spoke with my PR agency and we discussed release dates. We both realized Friday the 13th of September was ahead of us and thought it was a perfect date for the release! I can’t tell you how cool it is when things start coming together and making sense. I'm excited for whats next!
