The Friday Five - 3/15/19

"Lost on You"-LP

Okay, I am just wondering…where was I in 2016 when this song was first released. I didn’t hear this song for the first time until two days ago and I can’t stop listening to it. I love the raw emotion in this song and how amazing the vocals are. This is a slow song that not only sounds beautiful, but also sad at the same time. Her voice almost sounds like Gwen Stefani but with a more southern rock feel to it. I really enjoy this song and I am just kicking myself that I didn’t know about it sooner.

The song talks about a relationship that has turned sour. It speaks about the loss of this person and all of the emotions going with that loss. The song is the perfect to listen to when you are going through a breakup or looking for a song that can fit any sad situation. If you have not heard this song or of LP before, after listening to this song once you will never forget her.

"Boom"- X Ambassadors

I was skeptical when I first heard this song. I thought that it was going to sound like another Imagine Dragons song but after a second listen I have to say this song is actually good. It still has a Imagine Dragons feel to it, but that doesn’t make to song bad at all. In a way the song has a lot of soul and rhythm to it that makes it very unique.

This song also addresses the idea of walking away from a toxic relationship and holding your head high during the process and that is something we all should get behind in a way. Songs like this are supposed to make you feel good about yourself and remind you that you are better off looking out for yourself.

"Without Me"-Halsey

I am not going to lie, I tried to fight liking Halsey for a really long time. I am not sure why, but I tried. “Without Me” got me though and I am not mad about it. Her voice sounds amazing and this song is so relatable and feels close to the heart. I love listening to this song and I am not ashamed of it anymore. I bet if you turn on pop radio you could find this song playing almost every hour so, it won’t be hard to find.

I don’t know if something is wrong with me, but this is like the third break up song this week and I am not ashamed. This song talks about how one person lifted up another person in a relationship to greatness. But, in the end the other person backstabbed the other person.

"Warrior"- Chloe and Halle

This sister duos voices sound amazing together and they make music that is full of soul and rhythm. Their category would be considered pop or R&B but that does not stop them from being liked by most people who listen to them. The song was written for the Wrinkle in Time soundtrack and it stands out the most while listening to the album.

I love the sounds of the vocals and I can’t get enough of their sound. To me they sound like the future of pop music and that is not a bad thing at all. They are super talented and I can’t wait to see the things she will do in the future!

"Waves"-Normani

I know, she is the ex-member of Fifth Harmony which in the past has sang uninspired pop songs but, I have to say I really enjoy her solo stuff. It may not be alternative but I think it sounds different than what is on the radio and deserves to be recognized. Her genre is more R&B and I think she can be very big in the next couple years.

Her voice solo sounds strong and powerful and I feel like she has found her signature sound. She is coming into her own and it hard not to notice if you are a music fan. Also, if you have the time I would also look at the music video. The visuals are amazing and it worth the watch. I think she deserves more attention than she is given.
